Hamilton Hill - Barnageeragh Cove

Hamilton Hill, Barnageeragh Cove Skerries derived it’s name from the Skerries Monument history.

It is named after James Hans Hamilton, the son of Hans Hamilton who was elected to the House of Commons for County Dublin in 1841. He held his seat until 1863 and died in June 1863, aged 53.  His son Ian succeeded him as Member of Parliament for County Dublin and was elevated to the peerage as Baron Holmpatrick Skerries in 1897. The Monument is a reduced scale replica of the Wellington Monument in Phoenix Park. It was built as, and is to this day the focal point of the old town.
